Loving yourself involves a certain degree of vanity, yes, but you have to believe that you are worth the effort.
How others feel about you can only ever reflect how you truly feel about yourself to begin with.
If you have the utmost respect for the person that you are, take pride in the things that you do and how you carry yourself on a daily basis... If you believe yourself to be as good as it gets, not allowing others to bring down your confidence or self-esteem with low blows or thoughtless comments... If you walk, talk and embody the belief that you are the sh!t on a regular basis until it becomes second nature to believe in Number One before believing in anything else... then you will succeed.
Notice yourself first and soon, others will want to be noticed by you. Nurture yourself first, and others will want to have you nurture them. See yourself as beautiful, funny, attractive, sexy, smart and you will become these things in the eyes of others. It's not about lying to yourself or pretending, though it may seem so at first.
It's about changing the way you think and reprogramming your attitude towards you.
Once you achieve this, that man or that woman who once seemed so unattainable to you will no longer meet your new standards. Those people you so desperately wanted to be friends with - the 'beautiful, confident' people - will find themselves being drawn to you, with little effort on your part, and not even know why. You will become a magnet for everything that you now believe to be true about you.
It's hard work, but with practice it becomes a breeze. If you do it properly, it's even fun. But you gotta start by believing that it works. Then you have to start believing in the process of doing it. And you have to stick to it, even when it sometimes seems stupid. And you don't need to hurt anybody else or become an arrogant person to achieve this mindset. It is perfectly possible (and advisable... and necessary) to stay true to your beliefs and values in life, nobody is asking you to change that.
Ain't nobody more important or more beautiful than Number One.
Believe that, be genuine and things will begin to change for the better: relationships, jobs, friendships, opportunities, you name it...
Now go try it :)
